Hunting Zebra in South Africa
Zebra are a popular addition to many plains game hunts — not only for their striking hides but also for the unique challenge they present. Despite their abundance, zebra are extremely alert and skittish, making them surprisingly difficult to approach.
Most zebra hunts are for Burchell’s zebra, which are widely distributed in Limpopo. They prefer open woodland and grassy areas where they graze in herds. It’s common to see them mixed with wildebeest or impala.
Zebra can be hunted throughout the season, though May to August offers slightly easier visibility when the bush thins out.
Hunting style
Hunted by walk-and-stalk or from blinds, zebra require a well-placed shot and some careful tracking. Their thick skin and strong build mean shot placement is especially important.
